About Pilates

Pilates is a unique form of exercise that focuses on strength, flexibility and body awareness. Through controlled exercises and focused breathing, it strengthens the body, improves posture, and enhances overall mobility.  It was created in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates, who developed the method to improve both his physical and mental well-being. Inspired by his own journey of overcoming health challenges, he combined elements from yoga, martial arts, gymnastics, dance, and strength training to create a system which helps people move better and feel stronger.

About Sam

I started practising Pilates over 20 years ago to counteract the long hours spent hunched over a desk, toiling away at my laptop. After a few months of regular practice, I began to notice it was transforming how I moved and felt — both in class and in everyday life. It helped ease my lower back pain, reduced the number of running-related injuries I was picking up, and did wonders for my core strength.

Before long, it became clear that Pilates was something I not only wanted but needed to make part of my daily routine. In 2021, I decided to take the plunge and pursue the dream I’d been quietly nurturing for years: I changed career and began retraining as a Pilates teacher.

In 2022, I gained my Level 3 Pilates qualification and have since undertaken further training with the world-renowned Body Control Pilates including an additional Pilates matwork certification, the Body Control reformer Pilates qualification, Pilates for Bone Health (Osteoporosis) and Pilates for the Older Adult.
